Growth Driven Design and Inbound Marketing for Real Results
SEO Strategy | Finding a Strategy that Fits You
Having a strategy for your SEO is extremely important, More than 90% of websites get no search results from Google and other search engines, Less than 5% of them get more than 10 visits a month via Search Engines.
SEO is crucial for ensuring that your business gets seen on the Internet.
SEO Strategy - How do Search Engines rank your content?
Search Engine Optimisation [SEO] is the art of getting better rankings on the Search Engine Results Pages [SERPS].
Having a well organised SEO strategy is key.
Gaining a Return on Investment[ROI] from your website should be your primary goal. There are many vanity metrics that can confuse the issue.
Understanding how your content is ranked is an important step in gaining the upperhand in the SERPs.
There are many different things that can affect your positioning on the SERPs, but the two most agreed on criteria are Relevance and Authority.
Relevance and authority work hand in hand, If your content has no authority and is relevant, your results will suffer, If you have relevance and no authority, your results will suffer.
SEO Strategy - How do the Search Engines decide where to rank your content?
Search engines have robots [bots] that will crawl your website and analyse it.
The analysis will check for keywords in your content, and compare that information to other websites offering the same subject and will then rank your content accordingly.
Google will then check for authority and adjust your ranking accordingly.
SEO strategy - How do the Search Engines determine relevance?
The bots have an algorythm which checks your website's content for keyword usage and quality of content.
The objective is to serve the best content to users,
All content should be created with the user in mind, Content written specifically for Search Engines, and not for users will fail.
A good SEO strategy is "Create loads of high quality content for the topics you want to be known for".
There is no benefit to a Company selling screws and bolts, ranking for property. focus on your business.
SEO strategy - How do the Search Engines determine Authority
Authority is created by links back to your site, If enough people reference your work, Google will see your content as authorative.
Links can be from blogs, websites, social media and more.
Links can either add authority, be neutral or reduce authority.
Good links that add authority would be from people in the industry, people talking about the subject at hand etc:
Neutral links could be from sites that have no tie in to the site, but are not bad links like from porn and other adult sites or link exchange programs. Link exchanges are easily determined.
The Search engines are able to diagnose link exchanges and paid for links.
SEO Strategy - What is Search Engine Optimisation
More than 90% of websites get no traffic from Google.
More than 5% of websites get less than 10 visits a month from Google.
In a study of 2 million sites by ahrefs, only 5.7% of websites ranked in the top ten of the SERPs for at least one search query within a year of publication.
There seem to be no fixed statistics on how many pages Google adds daily, but a search for "the" for the last 24 hours reveals that Google has indexed 25 270 000 000 pages at the time of my search for the last 24 hours.
This is a devastating statistic and highlights the importance of SEO.
SEO is the optimisation of a website to achieve results in the SERPs
Why SEO is Crucial
In the digital age, the significance of appearing prominently on search engines cannot be overstated.
93% of all online experiences start with a search engine query, and 75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results.
If your website isn't optimized for search engines, you're missing out on the majority of potential customers.
SEO isn't just about getting noticed; it's about being found by those actively seeking the products or services you offer.
The difference it can make in driving organic, targeted traffic to your site is astounding, and it's why SEO is a cornerstone of a successful online presence.
Statistics to highlight the impact of SEO
Over 50% of all website traffic comes from organic search. (BrightEdge)
70-80% of users ignore paid ads and focus on organic results. (Search Engine Journal)
Businesses that blog receive 55% more website visitors than those that don't. (HubSpot)
Google dominates the search engine market with an 86% share. (StatCounter)
Just some of the things that affect your SEO
We like to say there are 101 things that can affect your ranking, because there are many things that can affect your ranking.
These are some of the things we do to please the algorythms:
On Page optimisation [SEO]
On page optimisation refers to the content that the user sees. This would include text, images and head lines.
Every Article, Blog or Page should have a main headline that is wrapped in the [H1] tag.
You can break pages into sections using sub headings [h2] sub sub headings [h3] and more sub headngs with the h4 tag. Headlines are a great place to include your keywords.
Make short paragraphs and leave lots of white space to make it easy to read.
Images must always have an alt tag and be compressed for speed.
The article should focus on one subject. Trying to squeeze in multiple subjects makes the page harder to categorize and index.
I would go as far as to say that every page should have a specific style and format.
Create content for people not for bots, Don't ever overuse your keywords, rather use synonymns if you are writing normally and your keywords are appearing to be forced.
Off Page optimisation
Off page optimisation refers to the stuff that can be seen by looking at the code. These include your metatags.
Title: The Title tag get's used as the title by search engines and social media sites. The ideal title is between 50 and 60 characters.
Description: The description tag is used by the search engines to populate the descriptive part on the SERPs, an ideal description consist of no more than 1600 characters.
Keywords: The keyword tag allows you to specify the keywords that you think are important for your content
Canonical: Create a canonical tag to ensure that the search engines use a very specific URL for the content. Even if the page can be accessed in numerous ways, you only want it indexed once.
Every image should have an alt tag describing it, You can use keywords here as well. The search engines use these tags to index images for specific keywords.
Doing the on page and off page optimisation as above is the bare minimum, There is a lot more that can be done.
